Understanding Followers on Pinterest

Updated: Oct 8, 2020

Many people think success on social media is equally related to the number of followers you have.

Well here is the good news it is 100% possible to see tons of traffic from Pinterest even if you don't have a lot of followers.

That is what makes Pinterest so great, it's all about the keywords and searches. With the right keywords, your pins have the potential to be seen by the amazing Pinterest users- that's right even if you don't have one single follower!

So here is how it works:

First, you create your Pin and the Pinterest wizards first distribute it to your followers directly onto their feed. They then gage how well that particular pin does and decide how many more pinners they want to distribute it too.

So like Instagram, a Pin that gets some love or "engagement" right away will then be more likely to get distributed faster and to a wider audience.

So basically, yes having some followers does help, but that does not mean its necessary to get your content seen by the masses.

Unlike other social platforms, there is more than one way to "Follow" on Pinterest.

  1. You can "Follow" the actual Pinterest users profile which in turn means you are following every new board they create.

  2. You can also "Follow" on just one or a few single boards. This type of following will still appear as part of your overall followers on Pinterest. But they won't see any new boards that you create.

So moral of the story here ladies... yes Followers on Pinterest matter but let's shift our mindsets from this being the end all be all of the importance and put more focus on simply creating amazing pins and content that are doing to drive traffic back to your website.
